Day 12, Part 2: Wroclaw thru the lens of a college student

Photos, top to bottom: 1. View from golf cart showing audio jack for precorded narration in multiple languages. 2. Centennial Hall, built around 1910, designed by Max Berg. It was used as a navigation aid for WWII pilots, so did not get bombed. 3. Lamplighter of Cathedral Island .

We had booked the 2-hour golf cart tour of Wroclaw. It covers a lot of ground pretty efficiently. Our driver/guide was a grad student at Wroclaw Polytechnic. Clearly, he was not studying history. We learned 1. public university is "free" in Poland, 2. where to go for cheap, good pizza (Coffin Pizza next to an old crematorium), 3. specific photos of WWII destruction are of the bombed cathedral (not!), and so forth. We did get to stop at the Centennial Hall and walk around, something I had wanted to do during last year's Poland trip.

In the evening we took the tram to Cathedral Island to see the lamplighter in action. He wore jaunty, period attire and had a faithful following of tourists trotting after him.

  1. At least your guide's pizza recommendation was probably correct. College students seem to know these things (if not others).
