Day 6, Pierogi & New adventures

Photos, top to bottom: 1. Fresh produce at the market. 2. Making pierogis. 3. Kopiec Kosciuszko. 4. Zapiekanka

Pierogi class! We met our instructor and fellow classmates at the appointed location and walked to a nearby market. Stalls of fruit, cheese, baked goods, vegetables, eggs, fish, meat, household goods, flowers and more populated the place. Our teacher, Paula, picked up ingredients for the traditional pierogis we'd be making + beers, juice and a dessert to sample.

Then she showed us how to buy bus tickets, and we took the tram to her apartment. Somewhere along the line, we discovered the eldest in our group, 80, was a caterer from Peru. She was traveling with her daughter and son-in-law from Florida. Add into the mix two Spanish teachers and a polyglot instructor, and the conversation swiftly shifted from English to Spanish.

Paula's charming apartment, 45 square meters, was a delightful setting for instant camaraderie and cooking.

Our happy group, now "experts" in the art of pierogi making, was broken up when Anne had to leave to meet up with her Teaching English in Poland group. We will miss her.(Anne tells us she has arrived in Dubiecko and that it's beautiful. )

Subsequently, the 2 nonne ubered to Kopiec Kosciuszko, a monument in honor of Polish hero (and American Revolutionary war hero) Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Great view from the top.

Polish baguette pizza, zapiekanka, was sampled and approved during a leisurely walk from the Vistula to the hotel via Krakow's Jewish quarter.
